What Is 1.54 In Concrete & What Is 1.24 In Mortar Calculation?
If you fill the shuttering area with blue metal alone it has lots of voids in it which also need to be filled by the other materials such as sand & cement.
Such void gap is known as void ratio compressibility which are,
Coarse aggregate =30-32%
Fine aggregate = 20%
Wastage = 2%
Therefore,
For 1 m3 Of Concrete In Wet Condition.
Void Ratio Compressibility of materials used in 1m3 concrete
Coarse Aggregate = 32%
Fine Aggregate =20%
Cement =Neglected (due to fine particles)
Wastage = 2-10% (we take 2%)
Total void ratio = 32+20+2 = 54%
So,
Dry volume = 54% wet volume
= (100/100)+(54/100) =1+0.54 =1.54
Dry Volume Of Concrete = 1.54 x Wet Volume Of Concrete
For 1 m3 Of Mortar In Wet Condition.
Void Ratio Compressibility of materials used in 1m3 mortar
Fine Aggregate =20%
Cement =Neglected (due to fine particles)
Wastage = 2-10% (we take 4%)
Total void ratio = 20+4 = 24%
So,
Dry volume = 54% wet volume
= (100/100)+(22/100) =1+0.24 =1.22
Dry Volume Of Mortar = 1.22 x Wet Volume Of Mortar
Now, you got the idea of where to use 1.54 and 1.22 in your calculation the percentage may vary for design mix for nominal it will be constant.
Again,
For concrete use 1.54
For mortar use 1.24
