GYPSUM BOARD
Natural ground gypsum or synthetic gypsum is heated or calcined to dehydrate the raw material. Then the heated gypsum is mixed with water and additives to form a semi-liquid mixture which is used between continuous layers of recycled paper on a longboard machine.
USES
Gypsum board is used as partitions and linings of walls, ceilings, roofs and floors.
TYPES OF GYPSUM BOARDS
Gypsum plasterboards are classified according to their use.
1. Gypsum Wallboards
The gypsum wall panel has one side on which decoration can be applied.
2. Gypsum Wallboard with Reduced Water Absorption Rate
These panels contain additives in the core and/or paper liners to reduce the rate of water absorption. They may be suitable for special applications in buildings where reduced absorption properties are required to improve the performance of the panel. Unless otherwise specified, the decoration can be applied to the face.
3. Gypsum Wallboard with Improved Core Cohesion at High Temperatures
These panels can have mineral fibres and/or additives such as dolomites, etc. in the gypsum core to improve the cohesion of the core at elevated temperatures. They have a face suitable for direct decoration.
4. Gypsum Plaster Baseboard
These panels have a face adapted to receive plaster and can be perforated during primary manufacturing.
5. Gypsum Plaster Baseboard with Improved Core Cohesion at High Temperatures
These panels can have additives such as mineral fibers, etc. in the gypsum core to improve the cohesion of the core at high temperatures. They have a face capable of receiving plaster and can be perforated during primary manufacturing.
GYPSUM BOARD STANDARDS
LENGTH can be manufactured between 1800 mm to 4500 mm (6 to 14.8 ft.)
WIDTH of 600, 900, 1219 and 1220 mm are manufactured on demand.
THICKNESS of Boards are produced in 8.0, 9.5, 12.5, 15.0, 16.0, 18.0 mm as per demand.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
1. The product shall conform to the requirements for quality and performance as specified in the standard.
2. The product or product packaging may display in brief the criteria based on which the product has been labelled environment friendly.
3. The material used for product packing shall be recyclable, reusable or biodegradable.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
Building boards generally used as partitioning, panelling, cladding and false ceiling shall be made from industrial wastes such as by-product gypsum.
NOTE -The manufacturer shall provide documentary evidence by way of certificate or declaration to this effect to BIS while applying for ECO Mark.
PACKING AND MARKING
1. Gypsum plasterboards shall be transported so as to be kept them dry and free from moisture.
2. The product shall be packed in such packages which are made from recyclable/reusable for biodegradable materials and declared by the manufacturer and may be accompanied with detailed instructions for proper use.
3. Each board shall be clearly and permanently marked with the following information:
a) Manufacturer’s name or trade-mark;
b) Size of the board;
c) Year of manufacture; and
d) List of identified critical ingredients in descending order of quantity, per cent by mass.
