Let us consider an AAC block wall of size 3m × 3m × 0.2m as shown in the plan.

Available market AAC block sizes 600mm X 200mm X 100-300mm.  We will use 600 x 200 x 200 mm for this wall construction as the thickness given in plan in 200mm

Therefore, Let us take an average mortar thickness of 10 mm. For calculation purposes

Given data:

AAC block wall Length (L) = 3m

AAC block wall Height (H) = 3m

AAC block wall width | thickness (w) = 0.2m

AAC block size = 0.2m × 0.2m × 0.6m

Mortar thickness = 10mm = 0.01m

Ratio of Cement-mortar = 1:6 (Selection of Cement Mortar Ratio)

Step 1: To find volume of the block wall

Volume of the block wall = Length (L) × Height (H) × Thickness (W) = 3m × 3m × 0.2m = 1.8 cum/m3

Step 2: To find volume of the block without mortar

Volume of the block without mortar = Length (L) × Height (H) × Thickness (W) = 600 mm × 200 mm × 200 mm = 0.6m × 0.2m × 0.2m = 0.024 cum/m3

Step 3: To find volume of the block with mortar

Using 10mm mortar | by adding 0.01mm to size of block | addition of the mortar thickness comes - = 0.61 x 0.21 x 0.21

Volume of block with mortar Length (L) × Height (H) × Thickness (W) = 610 mm × 210 mm × 210 mm 0.61 x 0.21 x 0.21 = 0.02562 cum/m3

Step 4: To find number of AAC blocks required

No of blocks = Volume of blockwork/Volume of 1 block with mortar = 1.8 /0.02562 = 70.257 – 71nos

Step 5: To find volume of mortar required

Total volume of blocks without mortar = 71 x 0.024 = 1.704m3

Volume of mortar = Volume of blockwork - Total volume of blocks without mortar = 1.8 – 1.704 = 0.096 m3

Wet volume of the mortar = 0.096 m3

Dry volume = 1.33 x 0.096 = 0.12768 m3

Step 6: To find volume of cement required

Ratio of Cement-mortar = 1:6

Total ratio = Ratio of cement + ratio of sand = 1 + 6 = 7

Volume of cement = Ratio of cement/total ratio x Dry volume = (1/7) x 0.12768 = 0.01824m3

Weight of cement = Volume x density = 0.01824 x 1440 = 26.2656KG

No of cement bags = Weight of cement / Weight of 1 bag = 26.2656 / 50 = 0.525 bags – 1 bags

Step 6: To find volume of cement required

Ratio of Cement-mortar = 1:6

Total ratio = Ratio of cement + ratio of sand = 1 + 6 = 7

Volume of sand = Ratio of sand/total ratio x dry volume = 6/7 x 0.12768 = 0.10944 m3

Material need AAC block wall of size 3m × 3m × 0.2m

AAC block = 70.257 – 71nos

Cement = 0.525 bags – 1 bags

Sand = 0.10944 m3 (cum-cft) 3.8646cft
